Our Community engagement programme is a 3-year project to develop activities across the city throughout the year using the annual Festival as a focal point for bringing communities together in celebration of their diversity.
The key aims of the project are:
- Provide more opportunities for everyday interaction between host communities and refugees and asylum seekers to help prevent feelings of loneliness and isolation.
- To enable host communities to have the confidence and knowledge to engage with refugee and asylum seekers in their area, enabling them to create places of welcome and inclusion.
- Encourage refugees and asylum seekers to contribute their skills, knowledge and experience to their local community.
- To animate local community spaces with vibrant events for all ages and backgrounds.
We are currently working in a number of areas within Bristol, but would like to encourage more communities to get involved. We can offer support, advice and training to communities. If you are a community hub or group please get in touch with our engagement team to get involved!
We recently collaborated with a number of Community hubs, and in consultation with refugees and asylum seekers, to come up with some guidance for creating spaces of welcome in our communities. Please do download the document below and get in touch if you would like to discuss further, or arrange a Welcome Chat.
